Gingin is one of the oldest and prettiest towns in Western Australia and has some well preserved historic buildings. It is also gateway to the Wildflower Region in September and October. The Gingin Brook runs through the centre of the town and works an old waterwheel which can be seen situated on the village green. Here you will also find picnic tables and bbq's. The village boasts two wineries with cellar door sales & tastings namely, Jylland Winery and Riseborough Estate and is situated on the Chittering Valley Wine Trail. A fine art gallery has been established upstairs at the Riseborough Winery. There are currently 8 wineries featured along this trail offering a huge selection of wines. A large range of honey can be sampled at West Coast Honey plus their famous honey ice-cream. Drive to Orange Springs Road and visit Regans Ridge Olives and the Fini Olive Farm, see how the olive oil is made and enjoy some tastings! About 30 minutes drive will take you to the Gravity Discovery Centre and the Gingin Space Observatory where you will also find The Stargazers Cafe. Enjoy a swim at the Iluka Aquatic Centre in their 25m outdoor pool from beginning of November to end of March. Evening meals can be found at the local pub/hotel or on Friday & Saturday nights at the local cafe/restaurant. Gingin Caravan Park also offers a restaurant meal. Get a Gingin Walkabout Trail guide from the Shire offices and enjoy the many scenic and historic attractions within the towns central precinct Take a day trip to New Norcia and visit the States only Monastic town where it is possible to take a town tour and learn about the history of the place. It boasts an art galley too. The gift shop has lots of New Norcia products on sale. All money spent on your visit here is used by the monks to help preserve their home. You can also enjoy a coffee or a meal at the New Norcia Hotel. For surfing, windsurfing or kite surfing or just to enjoy the sand dune adventures on offer, then Lancelin is also worth a visit.
